Ebonized boxwood mimics the color of expensive ebony wood used in the most luxurious chessboards and pieces. These pieces are a darker version of the tournament chess pieces from the past.
In the 1950s and 1960s, these pieces were among the most favored in the chess world.
They were used in major chess tournaments worldwide, such as the 1959 Candidates Tournament, held in three Yugoslav cities - Bled, Belgrade, and Zagreb.
This classically beautiful chess piece set includes two extra queens (white and black) for pawn promotion. The unique design of the pieces is a visual delight and provides a sturdy playing feel.
